You're standing by the lake, the day was perfect, all that's left is to pack up the board – and then comes that one moment when the whole shoreline flinches. That's why many people wonder: Does a deflating tool fit every SUP? The short answer is: not every one, but a great many inflatable boards with the right valve type.
That's the good news. The even better news: You don't have to be a tech expert to figure it out yourself in two minutes. What matters isn't the brand on your board, but the valve that's installed.
Does a deflating tool fit every SUP? It depends on the valve
Many people first think of board size, manufacturer, or year of manufacture. In practice, however, what primarily matters is which air valve your iSUP has. Most inflatable stand-up paddle boards use so-called HR valves. That's exactly where the crucial point for compatibility lies.
If a deflating tool has been developed for common HR valves, in many cases it will fit a large number of commercially available iSUPs. This applies particularly to leisure boards, i.e., precisely the models most frequently used on lakes, rivers, and coasts.
Nevertheless, "fits many" is not automatically the same as "fits all." There are exceptions. Some boards use different valve constructions, rarer special valves, or structural details around the valve housing that can restrict the use of certain tools.
